The Imani Project is a vision of hope, faith and inspiration; a demonstration of what a small group of dedicated people across the world can accomplish to mobilize against HIV/AIDS. Imani is translated “faith” in Kiswahili. The project is a partnership between Americans and Africans based on cultural understanding and mutual respect.

The Process –
The Sacred Words series are original watercolors. The process consists of arranging the individual letters of the word in a pleasing juxtaposition, transferring the composition to watercolor paper and negative painting around the letters to create the background. This renders the individual letters white with a multicolored background. The next step consists of airbrushing watercolor onto the the surface using angled plastic templates. The templates are respositioned up to a dozen times in alternating primary colors to create the final rayed pattern.
